Ch. Belle Of Basquaerie
This young woman, "Miss Jeanne Boadway, a popular Marin junior, who was graduated today from Tamalpais High School" is strolling with Belle Of Basquaerie. Belle is owned by Mr. C. A. Ackerman, Big Four Kennels, San Francisco, California. Belle is the "mother of the only litter of that breed in the West". Circa 1935. Belle is the pioneer Great Pyrenees in California and on the Pacific Coast.
  • Belle was purchased by Mr. Ackerman from the Basquaerie Kennels in the summer of 1935;
  • Belle was purchased in whelp to Champion Patou, and had a litter born September 19, 1935 of eight puppies. This was the first AKC litter born in California and on the Pacific Coast;
  • Belle was the first recorded AKC Great Pyrenees shown in California, at Golden Gate Kennel Club Show, in Februrary of 1936;
  • Belle became the first Great Pyrenees bitch bred in America to become a Champion (1936);
  • Belle has the distinction of being from the first litter ever born in the United States , "Urdos x Blanchette", June 20, 1933.
